Dear friends of South Africa!
Welcome to the official website of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in the Russian Federation!
On 28 February 2022, the Republic of South Africa and the Russian Federation commemorated 30 years of diplomatic relations. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established as far back 28 February 1992 during the Soviet Union era. It is worth mentioning that the former USSR was one of the key supporters of the struggle for South Africa's liberation. We became the first African state to recognise the independence of Russia, post the dissolution of the USSR back in 1991. Similarly, an agreement of friendship and partnership was signed in 2006 to confirm the desire to develop strong trade and economic relations. Since then, the historical links between the two countries remain strong and South Africa continue to regard Russia as an important strategic partner.
The task of the Embassy is therefore to strengthen these existing relations with the Russian Federation and foster new ones in areas yet to be explored for mutual benefit of both countries. The website will be used as a reliable platform that the Embassy uses to provide relevant and current information relating to its operations. It will also provide updates on South Africa's Covid-19 related matters, guidance on tourism, business opportunities, consular matters, immigration and civic & all other related duties performed by the Embassy.
